Nick has over many years displayed a strong commitment to Waratah as a long standing member of the exec and as a coach of too many teams to count. Coaching one team is an extraordinary commitment of time, effort and emotional toil but in 2026, Nick made that commitment three times over! Initially coaching the Tri Series Opens Sabres team and the Div 3 Cheetahs, he also stepped up to coach the U8 Frogs when their coach was injured and unable to coach. On top of this, he helped support the Div 10 Titans on game day. This was a huge commitment requiring Nick to be available on four different nights as well as Saturdays. And sometimes Sundays when he would support his team at Gala days!
His players report learning immensely under his coaching and the Tri Series Sabres achieved the most success out of the Tri Series WNC teams coming in 6th ,and the Cheetahs came in 3rd and went on to finals. Success isn't accidental and both these results reflect Nick's hard work and ability to work collaboratively with other coaches. He also ensured that netball was a fun place for the Frogs, with the smiles on their faces each Friday night a testament to the environment Nick developed.
In addition to the many roles he has within the Club, he has also taken on the role of Coaching Convenor for Newcastle Netball, reflecting his passion for coaching, and improving our Club standing in the Newcastle Netball Community.
When asked about winning this award, Nick said "Really excited, really honoured. I had really good teams that have just such lovely people, and this award is a reflection of how great teams can make a coach look good. But it just feels great"
When asked what was next for Nick in season 2027 he said- "Just keep being prepared, keep smiling, and make sure that I don't throw my playbook on the ground again!"
Congratulations Nick, on his well deserved award. Waratah Netball Club wouldn't be the same without you!
